Chainsaw service
Maintenance and repair of chainsaws.
What is chainsaw service and repair?
We service and repair petrol and electric chainsaws – for domestic and professional use. A sharp chain and a well-maintained engine make cutting safer, more efficient and less tiring. A dull or damaged chain increases kickback risk and wear on the bar and engine; wrong chain tension or a worn bar can cause the chain to derail or break. Regular servicing keeps the saw reliable and extends its life.
We work on common brands (e.g. Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, Makita, Einhell) and carry out chain sharpening and replacement, bar and sprocket checks, engine servicing and repair, and fault diagnosis when the saw will not start or runs poorly. We use the correct chain oil and fuel mix (for two-stroke saws) and advise on safe use and maintenance.
What we do
- Chain sharpening and replacement: We sharpen the chain with a professional grinder so that all cutters are the same length and angle, or we fit a new chain if it is worn, damaged or stretched beyond adjustment. A sharp chain cuts quickly and reduces kickback risk and wear on the bar and sprocket.
- Bar and sprocket: We check the guide bar for wear (e.g. uneven groove, burrs), the sprocket (tip or drum) for wear, and the chain tension and lubrication. We replace the bar or sprocket if they are worn and advise on the correct chain type and pitch for your saw.
- Engine servicing and repair: For two-stroke petrol saws we check and clean the carburettor, replace the spark plug and air filter, and check the fuel system. We diagnose faults (e.g. no start, loss of power, chain not running) and repair or replace defective parts. For electric saws we check the motor, cable and battery.
- Oil system and carburettor: We check the chain oil pump and delivery, clean the carburettor and fuel lines, and advise on the correct fuel mix (e.g. 1:50) and chain oil. Stale or wrong fuel is a common cause of problems; we can drain and refill with fresh fuel.
We use quality chains, bars and sprockets that match your saw. After repair we test the chainsaw where possible and check that the chain tension and lubrication are correct.
What to bring?
- Chainsaw – please empty the fuel tank before transport for safety. If the saw leaks fuel, tell us when you book.
- For safety, do not bring the chain fitted if it is loose, damaged or very worn – we can fit a new chain. If the chain is fitted, ensure it is correctly tensioned and the saw is switched off.
- If you have the manual or model details, bring them or note the make and model when you book – this helps us order the right chain, bar and parts.
Important information
Sharp chain: A sharp chain cuts efficiently and reduces kickback risk and wear on the bar and engine. We recommend sharpening or replacing the chain when it no longer cuts well or pulls to one side.
Fuel mix and chain oil: Two-stroke petrol saws need the correct mix of petrol and two-stroke oil (e.g. 1:50). Use fresh fuel and the oil specified by the manufacturer. Always use proper chain oil in the oil tank – other oils can damage the bar and chain.
Annual service: We recommend a service at least once a year, ideally before the main cutting season. That way the carburettor and fuel system are clean and the chain and bar are in good condition.
Duration and costs: Chain sharpening or replacement usually takes a few days depending on workload. Engine repairs depend on the fault and parts availability. We will give you an estimate when you bring the saw and quote any repairs before starting.
