Oil change and filter
Engine oil and filter replacement.
What is an oil change?
Engine oil lubricates the moving parts of the engine, reduces friction and helps carry away heat. Over time it becomes contaminated with combustion residues, moisture and particles, and loses its protective properties. If the oil is not changed in time, wear increases and in the worst case the engine can be damaged.
The oil filter removes dirt and metal particles from the oil. It is always replaced together with the oil, because a used filter is saturated and would no longer protect the engine properly. We drain the old oil, fit a new filter and refill with engine oil that meets your vehicle manufacturer's specification (viscosity and approval, e.g. VW 508 00, Mercedes 229.5).
What we do
- Drain: We run the engine briefly to warm the oil, then drain the used oil completely (often from the sump plug; on some models we use extraction via the dipstick tube).
- Oil filter: We remove the old oil filter (and seal if separate), fit a new filter and tighten it to the correct torque.
- Refill: We refill with the correct grade and quantity of engine oil as specified by the manufacturer. We then check the oil level and reset the service indicator if applicable.
- Disposal: Used oil and the old filter are disposed of in an environmentally compliant way.
We only use oils that have the approvals required for your engine (e.g. long-life or conventional). If you have a preference (e.g. long-life oil for extended intervals), we can advise and use the right product.
What to bring?
- Vehicle – no need to bring oil or filter; we keep a range of quality oils and filters in stock and order the correct parts for your model if necessary.
- If you have a service booklet, we can stamp the oil change and note the next due date.
For an oil change alone you do not need registration documents or ID.
Important information
Intervals: Oil change intervals vary by manufacturer and engine – often every 15,000 to 30,000 km or every 12 or 24 months. Some vehicles use long-life oil with intervals up to 30,000 km or two years. We follow the manufacturer specification for your vehicle and will tell you the next due date (by mileage and/or date).
Short trips and severe use: If you mainly do short trips, drive in dusty conditions or with heavy loads, the manufacturer may recommend shorter intervals. We can advise you based on your use.
Duration: A standard oil and filter change usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes. If combined with other work (e.g. inspection), it may be part of a longer appointment.
Costs: The price depends on the amount and type of oil (e.g. long-life synthetic) and the filter. We will quote you before starting. Regular oil changes are one of the most important measures to protect your engine and avoid costly repairs.
